A cantora Ann Colville e o produtor Dub-L formam os The Controls. Este duo de Nova Iorque faz daquele trip-hop à antiga e com uma inflência hip-hop a nível de produção. Até agora e com muita pena, só têm um álbum cá fora e já data de 1999, de seu nome One hundred. À voz suave de Ann Colville, juntam-se os beats bem definidos de Dub-L. Recorre-se à guitarra clássica, aos violinos, a uns teclados e a meia dúzia de scratches para completar a produção. É um disco simples que aparentemente qualquer um, com mecanismos suficientes o poderia fazer, a diferença é que Ann Colville e Dub-L fazem-no muito bem feito.O texto que apresento a seguir acrescenta mais alguma coisa ao que escrevi.
